We must keep the deciduous teeth and protect it from any harm and make everything to maintain it free from dental caries and start to treat it when the dental caries start to erupt. To keep the deciduous teeth, there are many ways and it passes in two stages:- (1) Embryonic stage While the tooth starts to form from the eighth month of the embryonic stage, it is very important to pay attention to the mother's diet whether it contains large amount of salts of calcium and phosphate. If there is deficient in diet, it can be compensated by taking drugs and this should be started from the beginning of the 4 month of pregnancy. (2) After Delivery It is the stage which contains many methods. The followings are that I remember; (1) Feed the child starting from 6 month of his age with food and drinks that contained huge amount of calcium salts such as milk, cheese, eggs, fish, meat, honey and some fruits like banana, strawberry and some vegetables like Spanish. Because these compounds enter into the structure of the child teeth which start from the embryonic stage and continue until the deciduous teeth begin to erupt. Then, the permanent teeth erupt and these compounds causes not only very strong body built but also strong teeth that can protect themselves against germs forming dental caries. (2) Ingestion of fluoride materials; Many studies were performed to prove that fluoride material plays a very important role and effective in supporting the skeleton of the teeth. It also increases the percentage of salts inside its structure and leads to increase the resistance against the dental caries. Therefore, there is an advice to give children fluoride from the age of 6 month to replace the fluoride deficiency and it should include in the drinking water. All children from 6 months to 2 years old age should give sodium fluoride mouth drop solutions daily and then from 2 to 12 years old should take tablets of the same contents by mastication daily. It is also possible to make a very thin layer called varnish which contained fluoride in the dental clinic yearly or twice a year. (3) Indicate children since small age to use mouth brush with tooth paste that contained fluoride for cleaning teeth after food especially sweet ingestion. It is advisable to the children to reduce the sweet and sugar intake because it is stuck by teeth and to wash mouth with water after ingestion it directly at least. If it is impossible to brush teeth by tooth brush, washing mouth with water decreases the growth of organisms and germs form sweets to a certain extent and prevents the acid formation and which leads to the caries formation. (4) Visit dental clinic at least once yearly for the diagnosis of children teeth and put fluoride material and treat the caries form its beginning instead of waiting till pain occurred which is the sign of caries that reched to pulp of the tooth and also sign of the pus formation and it's destroyed the tooth completely. At this point, i want to make clear that it is the dental caries spread within the tooth by 4 stages- (A) Primary Stage That is the formation of dental caries present in the external layer of tooth an d called enamel layer and this is the best stage to treat the dental caries and most teeth have been prevented because the tooth is already filled with filling material by dentist without pain. So, it is not necessary to use anaesthesia and filling lasts in that tooth for a long time. (B) The middle stage It is the stage where caries reached inside the tooth to dentine layer that is usually less stronger and thicker than the enamel layer, then caries spread quickly and we can make totoh filling by protected pulp. The procedure causes little pain but filling inside the tooth remained for a long time. (C) Next Stage In this stage, the caries reached to tooth pulp and pain is very acute due to acute inflammation of the pulp which usually needs emergency treatment to relieve the pain. We usually cut the superior part of the pulp and then filled it as usual. It is very important to remember that it is also possible to keep the tooth in the mouth and avoid from its extraction. (D) The Proceed Stage This is the stage where the dental caries spread across the tooth pulp and reach outside the top of the roots and form pus. In this case, if the pus is not severe, it will be very painful and cause swelling in the cheek and possible to appear other signs and symptoms like increased body temperature and general weakness of the body. In this proceed stage, the success of the treatment still possible and keep the teeth from loss whether it si deciduous or permanent teeth but the treatment should be done by the hand of good dentists with well experience in the department. (5) Put fissure sealants material which newly appeared within last years. It is put to cover the small pits and fissures for deciduous and permanent teeth periodically and this material has many benefits. It covers the small pits and fissures that are present in masticating surfaces of posterior teeth that will decrease the accumulation of food inside it and subsequently decrease from decay and acid formation that causes dental caries and also clean the teeth surfaces easily because food is laid down from masticating surfaces without accumulation inside. Another benefit is release of fluoride inside teeth and this will increase the salt in the teeth and increase its resistance towards caries. (6) Put stainless steel crowns on badly carious teeth and those teeth containing big fillings to keep teeth and protect fillings from fall down. This saves the time of parents to visit the dental clinic frequently. And these crown are low in cost and ready in the dental clinic. It remains on the deciduous tooth until its time to lose after complete root resorption.
